The Code Lists interface is located on the Utility Bar under the System Administration COG icon (Administration COG).

Function

The Code List Maintenance interface provides the user with the ability to maintain the STIP Manager code lists. System Administration permissions are required to view this interface.

Purpose of Code Lists

A code list is a set of items that have at least two pieces of information: a description and a database "code" that is associated with the description. The purpose of a code list is to present users with a descriptive text instead of the short database code. For example, a "Project Purpose" code list would allow the user to select "State of Good Repair" from a picklist instead of the code "1." Code List maintenance, such as in this interface, creates a hub for editing these code names and descriptions, allowing changes to be reflected throughout the system with one modification.

Sections

The Code List interface consists of 3 sections:

  1. Code List Controls -- Allows the user to select the code list and their codes' order to display in the Code List table.
  2. Edit Fields -- Provides the user with editable fields for the selected code list.
  3. Button Controls -- Contains four button controls.

Controls

The Code Lists interface hosts some controls:

Control Section Used To...
Code List Dropdown Code List Controls Select the code list to view and edit.
Code List Table Code List Controls View all entries currently defined in the selected code list.
Reorder the Report Column Sequence: Double Up/Down Arrows Code List Controls Move a selected item to the top/bottom of the list.
Reorder the Report Column Sequence: Single Up/Down Arrow Code List Controls Move a selected item up/down one row in the list.
Editor Fields Edit Fields Edit the code item's information fields; some fields may not be editable (gray).
Add New Code Button Button Controls Add a new code entry to the current code list. This clears the Edit Fields, so the new code may be defined.
Sort Codes A-Z Button Button Controls Sort the codes for the code list alphabetically.
Save Changes Button Button Controls Save the changes made to the code list in the interface.
Discard Changes Button Button Controls Discard the changes made to the code list in the interface.

Edit Fields

There are two fields that will appear for all code lists:

Field Used To...
ID Defines the unique code associated with a code list entry; auto-populated.
Name Defines the user-friendly, display name for the code.
